Overview
After receiving urgent customer feedback about spilled sanitiser gel damaging the appearance of units in the field, we turned the input into a complete manufacturing solution in just three weeks. The spilled gel caused gunk buildup and unsightly drips down the unit, pooling at the base. We developed a drip tray using sheet metal with a brushed cosmetic finish and precise bending tolerances. A sliding tray with magnets made removal and cleaning simple, while heat-shrink covered magnets protected surfaces and prevented adhesive damage from alcohol, resulting in a durable and clean-looking solution.
Methodology
We started by reviewing user feedback and identifying the key issue: sanitiser gel dripping and pooling at the base of the units. Collaborating closely with our supplier, we engineered a specialised press tool to produce a drip tray with precise tolerances and a brushed finish for a sleek look. Embedded magnets kept the tray in place, with heat-shrink covers preventing scratches and protecting adhesives from alcohol. A sliding capture tray allowed for quick emptying and cleaning. The final design balanced functionality, durability, and visual appeal, creating a unit that is both practical and easy to maintain.
Results Discussion
Within three weeks, we successfully developed and deployed a durable and functional hand sanitiser drip tray to address customer concerns. The new solution improved the units’ appearance and made maintenance easier for end users. By incorporating magnets and a sliding capture tray, we simplified the cleaning process while enhancing product longevity. The use of heat shrink to cover the magnets also prevented damage caused by the constant exposure to alcohol-based sanitisers. This project showcased our ability to rapidly deliver high-quality solutions under tight deadlines while maintaining strict engineering and aesthetic standards.
